Adventures in Art for Ages (8-12 year olds) - Jeri Brown Class Size Limit: 14
This class will focus on developing skills (not as much on finished pieces). The students will explore the media of drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media. The art activities will focus on the incorporation and development of the elements of art and principles of design. Material Fee: $10.00 is due to the instructor on the first day of class.
(Optional) Students are encouraged to have a sketchbook at home and to draw from observation.
Portfolio Development Ages (10—13 year olds) - Jeri Brown Class Size Limit: 14
Sharpen your ability to see and record using line, value, form, space, color, and texture. Draw/Paint Sculpt from real life objects and reference materials. Focus on subjects and themes needed for a School of the Arts Portfolio. The student must be self motivated and working on drawing from real life objects outside of the class. (Recommended for grades 3 – 6). Material Fee: $10.00 is due to the instructor on the first day of class.
Plus students must supply their own sketchbook, drawing pencils (2) 6B or ebony and an eraser.

Each week while working on a painting, students will solve many problems through the painting process such as, shape and color relationships mixing and applying color/paint, painting techniques and creating form. In the first class meeting we will discuss supplies. Bring what you already have. Adobe Photoshop Elements – Curt DaltonClass Size Limit: 20
This course is for those interested in improving and modifying digital photos. Course covers getting the image into the computer, organizing, storing and retrieving options. How to quickly fix and adjust photos for red eye, color, cropping, lighting and sharpening; advanced image retouching, including removing unwanted items. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Knowledge.
Basic Computer Maintenance – Linda Fermo-Garcia Class Size Limit: 20
This class is a hands-on overview of PC hardware. How to use that information when buying computer parts and or upgrading your computer. This class will also cover basic troubleshooting concepts, such as virus removal and system optimization. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Knowledge.
Blogging for Fun, Fame and Profit – Wayne Segal Class Size Limit: 20
During this course, participants will learn the art and science of blogging. A blog is a website consisting of entries appearing in reverse chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first. The heart of its power lies in its immediacy of publishing information, the ease of setting up and maintaining a blog and its interaction with its users. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Knowledge. Dreamweaver – Lena Morosco Class Size Limit: 20
Dreamweaver is an introductory course to the fast growing industry of Web site design and development. This course will provide you with a solid understanding of the entire Web site development process, by learning to use Adobe Dreamweaver to design and publish web sites. Students will be expected to have a basic knowledge of the internet and how to navigate on the web and be able to access, retrieve and save data on the computer. Excel 2007 – Beginning – Lori Regala-Brion Class Size Limit: 20
Do you have paper-based systems to store data that you run calculations on? Learn how to migrate that data to an electronic format. In this course, you will use Excel 2007 to manage, edit, and print data. Topics covered include data entry, cell formatting, formulas, cell references, restructuring worksheets and charting. Introduction to Computers – Curt Dalton Class Size Limit: 20
If you are novice computer user, this is the class for you. The class covers how to use the mouse and keyboard and an introduction to hardware terminology and software basics. Beginning word processing skills are presented, so that students will be able to open, create, name, save and close files. File and folder concepts are also included, as well an overview of the Internet and e-mail.

This course introduces the basic principles of Digital Photography. Covers properly capturing images, manipulating of camera controls using, automatic and semi-automatic settings. The course introduces the basic features of word processing using Word 2007, including creating, editing, formatting, saving, and printing a document. Cutting, copying and pasting. Checking spelling, grammar and using the thesaurus, as well as how to change font types and size. Adjust line spacing, borders and basic tables, headers and footers. Inserting and using clip art and pictures into your documents. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Knowledge.
QuickBooks– Debbie Morris Class Size Limit: 20
The course is an introduction to the QuickBooks/Accounting software program. It also includes a review of accounting and bookkeeping principles. Topics include setting up your own company, recording business transactions, managing accounts receivable – accounts payable and inventory. Also, quarterly financial statements, setting up and running a payroll. Prerequisite: Basic Bookkeeping knowledge, Basic Computer Knowledge.

DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING All Classes Size Limit: 12
All four (4) levels of dog obedience use the praise method for positive reinforcement. The snap/jerk method is NOT used. Emphasis on a learning method using attention, focus bonding, and a team working out of love. A copy of the dog’s updated shot record is needed at the time of registration.
Basic Home Obedience – Helen Doberman
(For dogs OVER 6 months that are Puppy Kindergarten graduates OR dogs with no prior training.) Any dog regardless of age can be trained. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Basic Home obedience is for beginning obedience - sit, down, recall, heeling, stand, beginning jumping, and socialization. The class is designed for both the person who wants good home behavior, and the class lays the foundation for AKC obedience competitors as well. A mandatory 6-foot cotton-web-training leash and metal collar is required. Basic Home Obedience is a must for every dog. A copy of the dog’s updated shot record is needed at the time of registration.
Beyond Basic Obedience – Barbara Forgash (With Teacher Approval Only)
(For dogs that have SUCCESSFULLY completed a Basic Obedience class where the praise method was taught)
Dogs in Beyond Basic should have a solid foundation in the skills listed above in Basic Home Obedience. Dogs should be ready to be worked off leash. Skills include novice, open, and utility, although techniques taught are appropriate for polishing the dog for better home control without intent to show. Screening is done on the first evening by the instructor to assure the fundamentals have been mastered to meet the objectives. A copy of the dog’s updated shot record is needed at the time of registration.
Puppy Kindergarten – Pam Groh
For dogs UNDER 6 months with no prior training.) Puppies from 7 weeks to 6 months are taught manners, socialization with people and other puppies, sit/down stay, controlled walking on a leash, coming when called, and stand. Additional areas are addressed including mouthing, barking, housebreaking, digging, chewing, grooming, care, feeding, destruction, and other individual concerns. A mandatory 6-foot cotton-web training leash and nylon buckle collar is required. Puppy Kindergarten teaches the handler how to train a puppy to be a valued family member. A copy of the dog’s updated shot record is needed at the time of registration.

This class is an introduction to the Art of Foil Fencing. Students will learn how to move, defend and attack using the basic fencing weapon – the foil – in the French style. Fencing develops better eye-hand coordination, physical agility, grace and balance, while promoting cardiovascular fitness and increased confidence and self-esteem. Yoga Gentle – Tom Byrne Class Size Limit: Open

The focus is on basic, yet classical, yoga postures, alignment principals, and breathing techniques. Students are taught at a slow pace, with more verbal description to accompany each series of related postures. This class provides students whose native language is other than English with an opportunity to improve the accuracy of their American English pronunciation, stress and intonation. Through presentation and practice, students will learn strategies for improving the clarity of their speech and English language usage. This class is recommended for students with at least a good (conversational) understanding of English.

This course will focus on developing the basic expressive and receptive skills necessary to communicate with deaf people. Course content includes signs, fingerspelling, and numbers. ADULT EDUCATION
E.S.O.L. Program – Marguerite Oroz
The E.S.O.L. (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program is for people who desire to learn the English language. Communication skills and literacy in English are the primary objectives. Students are assessed for English proficiency level and assigned to the appropriate level of class – intermediate or advanced. ESOL is an ongoing class.
GED Program – Clark Gelfand
The GED (General Education Development) program provides the opportunity for adults to complete formal high school requirements and to achieve a State of Florida High School Diploma. The GED preparatory classes include the five areas of study: writing skills, social studies, science, reading skills and mathematics. GED is an ongoing year round class.
