 Course Information

ART  

Beginning Watercolor with the “Watercolor Gourmet”- Take the challenge out of watercolors by learning basic techniques

coupled with basic pantry items to create beautiful paintings. The Watercolor Gourmet will use her 35+ years of art teaching experience to show you the who, what, when, where and why of this fun medium.

 

COMPUTERS

MS Excel (Beginner/Intermediate)- This course starts with basic skills such as data entry, cell formatting and formulas. You will then tackle advanced features such as charting, financial functions, the IF function, macros, Lookup, Pivot Tables and integration with Microsoft Word and the web. Self-contained projects that depict real-world business tasks help students apply and retain knowledge.

MS Word Beginner/Intermediate)- You will learn how to use fonts, paragraphing and page formatting, how to do reports, resumes and how to work with tables. You will learn how to use clip-art, e-mail documents, address envelopes, and create outlines, styles, templates and web pages.

Photoshop Elements- is geared more for those who want to edit their own digital photos to make them the best they can be before printing or putting them into albums. This program costs under $100, and can frequently be found on sale for less.

Photoshop CS-(All Versions) Beginners through Layers & Masks Lab Work Using CS3-Demo CS 4 & 5- does the same thing as Elements but also provides more control options for more detailed editing and creative expression. It is also the choice for most professional photographers

Video Editing for DVD- Computer novices are encouraged to take this course. Produce your own movie. Learn how to: a) Capture video, photographs, and sounds. b) Edit your project including - titles, scenes, adding music and sounds, scene transitions, modifying video and sound with special effect tools, etc. c) Finalizing your movie.

 

CRAFTS/HOBBIES

Cake Decorating- Beginning Cake Decorating will let the fun begin! If you’ve never decorated a cake, you’re in for a treat. Did you know you can decorate with just about any color in the rainbow? Roxanne Birney will show you how. Fill the icing bag, attach a tip and get ready to make amazing decorations.

Culinary Arts- Chef Gary Swaye will educate, demonstrate and supervise your kitchen experiences as it regards to everyday cooking methods & procedures. Exploration of all cooking & baking ideas can be addressed, based upon the specific desires of the attendees.

The objective is for you to have fun in the kitchen while learning to prepare nutritious and very tasty surprises that can easily be prepared for others at home.

Fruit & Vegetable Carving- Learn the techniques of decorative fruit & vegetable carvings

Scrapbooking - This is a scrapbooking class for every level of scrapbooker or paper crafter from beginner to novice. We will be learning a variety of paper crafting techniques while we create beautiful scrapbook pages and/or handmade cards. Supply list will be determined the first night of class and may vary depending on the desires of the class.

Sculpting with Wet Clay- In sculpting class we will start right away using a photo the teacher will bring or personal pictures. We all work at own pace – let the piece dry, then fire and then finish. The teacher has all the paints for finishing.

Stained Glass- The class will include: Explanation of glass; Explanation of glass cutting tools and a list of supplies that will be needed; the first project will be four piece butterflies. This project will include glass and pattern brought by the instructor as well as the tools that will be supplied for the first class only; Instruction for the remaining classes will include the standard procedure for cutting and creating a stained glass project. This includes: cutting glass to fit the pattern; copper foiling each piece of glass, soldering the pieces together; and cleaning and polishing the finished project.

 

DANCE

 

Ballroom Dancing-Beginning-Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz, Swing, Cha Cha and Tango. At the end of this class you will be able to dance basic steps and get around the floor. Intermediate-This class is for dancers with experience of basic steps. Learn styling & dance patterns for the Foxtrot, Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha, Merengue, Swing and Mambo.**ballroom beginner prerequisite mandatory**

Belly Dancing- This class provides a solid foundation in belly dance movements.

Breakdancing- This class is for experienced breakdancers.

Flamenco Dancing - The class will include technique of body posture, arm, hands and footwork. The students will learn Sevillanas, most popular Southern Spain folk dance. Castanets will also be introduced, as well as Southern Spain culture description and steps vocabulary for better comprehension of the art of dance. The course is designed for enjoyment, exercise and overall mind and body benefits.

Latin Dance- Students will learn current club style dances (Country Folklore) such as the Salsa, Merengue & Bachata. Dancers of all levels are welcome. Special attention is given to beginners.

 

FITNESS/SPORTS

 

Cardio Kickboxing- is an exhilarating non-impact cardio class incorporating kicks & punches. This class is designed to improve muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, agility, balance and hand/eye coordination. (Resistance bands and hand wraps are included with class).
Golf- Course covers fundamentals of full swing, short game, rules and etiquette. Students may bring their own clubs or borrow clubs from the teaching center. $48 golf ball fee is due the first night of class at the club.

Tai Chi- Learn and practice focused meditation and the gentle martial art Tai Chi. Class runs 1 ½ hours. Start with a seated mediation, and then proceed to the basic Ch’ang style Tai Chi short form. To complete the class, the full form will be practiced.

Tennis -Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced.

Total Body Toning -A unique & highly effective combination of floor exercises utilizing resistance with bands or hand weights, targeting all our problem areas & major muscle groups, to tone and lose weight. With your commitment, guarantees positive results!! Be prepared with a mat, water, & if possible, a resistance band or hand weights. Instructor will order you a band if desired

Yoga -Yoga is a practice that stretches the body and expands the mind. The class is open to all adults regardless of age or physical conditions. You will go at your own pace, according to your ability.

 

LANGUAGES

 

French Conversation I- This is a French welcome for you to experience and learn a new language. You can spend several evenings learning new vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, different verb tenses, and how to incorporate them in a daily conversation. Come and challenge yourself to learn to speak another language and learn about a different culture. This is a terrific opportunity for anyone to take a refresher class in French.

French Conversation II- For those who have participated in French I.

Italian –You will learn to communicate your needs & intentions in everyday life. Grammar & conversation are necessary to master the Italian language.

Sign Language- This class teaches the basics of American Sign Language. No previous knowledge or ability to hear is necessary. If you or your friends or family has any hearing or speech impairment, this class is for you. It is also great for anyone who wants to translate for the hearing impaired.

Spanish 1- Attain a desired level of proficiency in four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Spanish 1.5- This class is a continuation of Spanish I.

Spanish 2- This class is designed to broaden the student's level of achievement in basic skills, with special emphasis on communication.

Spanish 2.5- This class is a continuation of Spanish II.

 


MISCELLANEOUS

 

Aviation Ground School- This class will teach you about airplane aerodynamics, airspace, air traffic control, weather, federal aviation regulations, and many other aspects of flying. The goal of the course is to prepare the student to pass the FAA written test required for all pilots. The instructor, Kevin Formica, is a Certified Flight Instructor with multiple ratings.

Aviation Instrument Training- This course is designed to teach you all that is necessary to pass the instrument rating knowledge test that is required before the instrument rating practical. Although practice testing is a component, this course will prepare you for a lifetime of safe instrument flying beyond simply cramming for the exam. The instructor, Kevin Formica, holds multiple certifications for flight instruction.

Bridge classes - Beginning Part I-For the absolute beginner. Learn bridge the fun way - playing the game the first week; Bidding & Play of the Hand-This class is for the advanced player.

Dog Obedience- This class will introduce the dog owner to the basic techniques for establishing pack leadership as well as providing hands on experiences and activities that will teach owner/handler how to teach their dog to heel, turn, about turn, sit, stay, down, and recall. Minimum age for the puppies should be 6 mos. No dogs first night. Proof of vaccines and scoop bag required.

Introduction to the Metaphysical World- Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that is not easily defined. It is concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world. The word derives from the Greek words  (meta) (meaning "beyond" or "after") and  (physiká) (meaning "physical"), "physical" referring to those works on matter by Aristotle in antiquity. The prefix meta- ("beyond") was attached to the chapters in Aristotle's work that followed after the chapters on "physics," in posthumously edited collections. Aristotle himself did not call these works Metaphysics. Aristotle called some of the subjects treated there "first philosophy." We will be discussing Intuition, Mediumship, Energy and our connection to the World. Also, we will be working with ESP/Telepathy, Astrology, Numerology, Past Life and Psychometry. Please bring with you an important piece of personal property (i.e. jewelry, watch etc. when we work with Psychometry) and also a journal to write your thoughts.


Mah Jongg - A game of Chinese origin usually played by four persons with tiles resembling dominoes and bearing various designs, which are drawn and discarded until one player wins with a hand of four combinations of three tiles each and a pair of matching tiles.

Relaxation & Stress Management Using Visualization and Guided Imagery- This introductory course on Stress Management and Relaxation will develop awareness of concentrated focus upon sound, objects, visualization, breathing techniques, and inner attention in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote inner peace, relaxation and enhance personal and spiritual growth. We will also look at and identify the causes of stress, understanding stress, building defenses and learning to avoid burnout. One of the ways will be through the use of relaxation techniques.

Self Hypnosis for Success- Are you having difficulty staying the course to reach your goals? Then this class is for you! Come learn a safe, effective too for achieving success. During this exciting class, you will learn why you don’t seem to be able to reach your goals; find out what hypnosis is and what it is not; have fun with exercises designed to see your level of imagination; enjoy a group guided imagery experience; learn how to create your own positive suggestions; have time to practice the three-step self-hypnosis technique during class.

Wills, Trust & Finance- The purpose of this class is to educate the public about the legal implications of dying with or without a Last Will & Testament or dying after having executed a Revocable Living Trust. The instructor takes the time to discuss real life cases and the problems that could have been avoided if people had planned otherwise.

 

INDUSTRY SERVICES

 

Importing & Exporting Around the World- Here, in one valuable course, is an introduction to all aspects of the exciting and challenging import and export industry. New international trade negotiations and treaties have made the import/export business a hot topic-and a golden opportunity. Learn how to get started, and explore the significance of legal issues, foreign currencies, and more. The course lays out the basics for everyone who is considering import/export. Find out if this is the right field for you.

Start & Successfully Run Your Own Business -Taking the first step into a new business is an exciting adventure. This course stresses practical techniques necessary for a successful venture, including: sources of capital; legal issues; how to select accountants and other professionals; necessary insurance coverage; availability of government assistance; how to set up your own business; how to develop a business plan; how to get started and exist in a down economy, and the form of organization

Medical Office Procedures/Insurance Billing -Office Procedures is a theory class that will introduce students to skills necessary to work in a Medical Office Environment. Insurance Billing is a computer class consisting of setting up an entire medical billing program, inputting required information to submit claims to insurance companies. $20 materials fee is included in course fees.
