Zoo Volunteer Education Guide
Adults and students who are eighteen years or older may register for a class which will be held at the Zoo. The class will prepare you as a volunteer at the Zoo to help with tours, and other educational programs. Students will learn about animal conservation and animal habitat, the history of zoos, public speaking and making presentations. Students will mentor with a worker at the Zoo and then become a Zoo Docent. Students must be friendly, outgoing and dependable. Students must also be T.B. negative and tested within the last year.
Golf at Night and Family Golf on Sundays
How can that be? Golf at the new facility at John Prince Park will be under the lights as an instructor gives you some tips on the use of woods, irons and putting. The folks at John Prince Park are excited about becoming a part of Forest Hill Community Education. We are excited to be able to bring you a day thing at a “night thing.” There is a $7.00 per week charge for range balls.
Tango
The Sultry Dance of Love comes to Forest Hill. You know you want to be able to do this dance. You know you want to do the moves and have the attitude and passion complete with facial and body expression. This class will allow you to dance with an indifferent attitude. Whether you are on a cruise, a hotel, or visiting Argentina, you will be able to dance and show your best.
QuickBooks Pro (NEW Version 2010)
This class is quick and complete. The course is the 2010 version lab pack. Students are given the basics of QuickBooks Pro. Previous students have included new business owners, as well as business personnel who have added a new version of QuickBooks Pro. Many students take this course so they can utilize the information for QuickBooks Pro at home or office. This class is very popular and is offered 2 times during each term. We use the latest version of QuickBooks Pro available for a computer lab. The instructor has been teaching this course for 6 years. Register early. This course offers ILU’s. (Course offered in Spanish also.)

This class is quick and complete. The course is the 2010 version lab pack. Students are given the basics of QuickBooks Pro. Substitute 10 Hour Certificate
This course is for the new substitute as well as the seasoned. This course is designed to provide information, strategies and tips when you are called to a school. The student will receive information and design a notebook with strategies and activities. Information on FCAT will be provided as well as the How To’s. Students will be eligible for ILU’s at the completion.
Cake Decorating I
If you want to make cakes that look like the professionals, this course is for you. The student will be provided hand on activities from icing to decorating with dots, beads, stars, shells, zig zag, ruffle, swag, bows, leaves, sweet pea, commercial bakery rose, full rose, reverse shells, and figure piping. Whether you just want to decorate a cake for the family, or decorate for friends, this course is for you. It’s lots of fun. ILU’s are available.
Jewelry Making
This course is the real thing in jewelry making. You will be working with professional tools and materials. It is a cut above the normal “craft” jewelry making course. This is a great course if you need gifts or if you need some fine jewelry. Class fills fast so sign up early.
Cooking With Chef Levy
Take the “Waist Band Challenge.” This is a start of a new year. Chef Levy will be showing you how to eat well, eat fit, and make quick meals. You will want to take this course. We will be using the Culinary Lab at Forest Hill. Materials are included.
WPBGC
Golf
While this course is not new, the golf course is. West Palm Beach Golf Course has been completely redone. The architect has turned the history page back to its original 1938 course. We have been watching the reconstruction and it looks beautiful. The golf class is taught by PGA instruction professional Rick Durham. Rick will not change your game but compliment it. He believes Golf should be fun and he can assist you with Driving, Irons, Chipping and Putting. You must see what they did next door. Register early. The course is scheduled for Tuesday morning. There is a $6.00 per week charge for range balls.
W.O.W.
Women on Weights
This course is a machine rotation weight and cardio machine class for women. Holly Hastings has joined our staff at Forest Hill to teach this class. This is a beginning course that allows you to work against yourself. There is no competition and the certified instructor is there to assist and get you on a plan. The course will be at Forest Hill Community High School. Come join this class. Tone up and burn it up. Get Your heart beating correctly.
Swimming at the YMCA
WPB Congress Ave
You cannot live in Florida and not know how to swim. This class will teach you to swim by a certified instructor at the YMCA on Congress Avenue just south of Forest Hill in West Palm Beach. The class is at 9:00 AM till 9:30 AM. The hour is early and the water is wet. Join us!
American Sign Language NEW
American Sign Language is the forgotten foreign language. Communication is important to customer service personnel and businesses. This course will enable the student to communicate in sign language. This course is new to Forest Hill Community High School. Enroll early.
Japanese
Japanese is a language that is growing and has grown at Forest Hill into a second course, Japanese II. Both courses are offered at Forest Hill. Unlock the language of the Orient, participate in the Tea Ceremony and seek the mysteries of Morakami. Enrollment is open to adults and adolescent students. Register early.
Ballroom Dancing
Forest Hill is proud to present Mr. Marlowe teaching Ballroom Dancing. This term Mr. Marlowe will be teaching Cha Cha and Samba in one class, plus Swing and Tango. You may take one course or both. After completion you will have the basics to dance the night away under the stars or with your star.
Fly Fishing New
“Be Confident with Fly Fishing”
You will leave this course with the art of casting a fly line and catching fish. The instructor has been teaching and fly fishing for over 20 years. He believes that if you can fly fish in salt water you can fly fish anywhere. You will learn equipment selection, fly selection, and casting. Practice will be a part of the class. You are welcome to bring your own equipment or have equipment supplied.

Voice Lessons
Beginning to advanced, classical to pop, the voice instructor will assist you in getting the most from your voice. This voice lesson is a private, 30 minute, one on one singing lesson. If you are a singer or in a chorus or choir and would like some personal instruction, this course is for you. The course is limited to 6 students. Each lesson is 30 minutes in length. The instructor is a professional singer. Register early.
French
This course has been redesigned by the instructor based upon comments and suggestions from the students. While many of the lessons will remain the same, the course will be based off of the Berlitz foreign language courses. This course has been successful in the past and with the changes will be more so. Register early. It fills quickly.
YOGA
We are proud to bring YOGA back to Forest Hill. We have hired a new teacher and this course will be 12 weeks. Students will be presented with breathing and meditations and different positions. This course is a physical workout. Bring your Yoga mat and a towel. This class has always been popular when we have offered it.
Tai Chi
This class means low impact, high return on workout. Tai Chi is a new class for us at Forest Hill. This is a beginning course, with the opportunity for intermediate and advanced classes in the future. Begin this workout regiment from the Orient and be able to reroute energy when and where you need it. Class is limited so register early.
ILU’S
International Learning Units (©LERN)(ILU’s) are educational learning units or points which are calculated for classes, seminars and events to participants who attend and pass tests, quizzes, and hands on learning with 80% one ILU for each cluster of five content items. Forest Hill Community High School will be offering ILU’s for our students and participants in several classes. Please note the courses we are offering. Some businesses and organizations will accept ILU’s, as well as CEU’s (Continuing Education Units). ILU’s will be kept by Forest Hill and awarded on certificates of completion. Employers and businesses are encouraged to accept ILU’s and receive more information from Lern.org.
Floral Design I and II
This course has grown to Floral Design II. The instructor has been teaching at other schools for four years. Floral Design I is hands on and includes the art, skills, and shortcuts in floral design. Floral Design II is a result of requests from the students of Floral Design I. More information and beautiful floral designs await the student in Floral Design II. Register early.
In and Out the Window
Basic Computers
This class is for students who may not have computers. This is for first timers who need to get computer savvy fast. You will be exposed to all aspects of the computer and gain a basic knowledge. Students will touch on painting, drawing, writing text, and saving information on discs. This course offers ILU’s.
Child Care
Child care is available for the children of adult students while they are enrolled in night classes. Children must be 4 to 12 years old and potty trained. We cannot accept children who are in diapers. The facility and policy does not allow for it.
Mixed Martial Art (New)
A “Brazilian Martial Art”, much like judo. This course is new to Forest Hill but promises to be a great class for workout and self-defense. The instructor is very eager and energetic. It is a beginning course and with the students may grow into an intermediate course.
Digital Photography II
This class will teach you the basics of preparing and printing your digital pictures using Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.o. Students will use hands on editing and printing in a computer lab to make their pictures. The instructor is an amateur photographer and has years of experience. He is excited about offering this course at Forest Hill. Course is limited to 18 students so register early. This course offers ILU’s.
